Second-hand smoke or environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) is one of the most controversial public human health issues. A growing body of evidence implicates ETS as a possible cause of lung cancer, childhood disorders such as bronchitis, and heart disease. It is known to contain over 5000 chemical compounds of which at least 43 have been designated as a known human or animal carcinogen. In addition to the development of cancer, ETS has also perhaps more subtle yet significant effects on general respiratory, dermatologic, and ocular health.
