One of the main goals of the active suspension system application in the vehicles is the ride comfort enhancement. On the one hand, due to the human sensitivity to the transmitted vibrations, ride comfort depends not only on the amplitude but also on the frequency content of the transmitted vibrations to the body. On the other hand, the frequency content of the transmitted vibrations is a function of vehicle speed. Therefore, in the ride comfort-oriented design of the active suspension controller, traffic conditions should be taken into account. In this paper, a gain scheduling adaptive fuzzy logic controller (AFLC) is devised for active suspension control in order to achieve optimal ride comfort at various traffic conditions. Simulation results prove the effectiveness of the control approach in attaining optimal ride comfort at various traffic conditions.
