This paper attempts to explain how Axiomatic Design (AD) can help to consistently come closer to an usually hidden goal of Concurrent Engineering: the fulfillment of the functional requirements of products through procedures that are uniformly put to use along all the activities that are related to the products' and production's design processes. In addition, it will show that Axiomatic Design provides a framework that is quite suitable to perform the product's decomposition, a task that is crucial in the development of compound products, especially for the novel ones. Finally, it will show that this framework is utterly appropriate to outline product design strategies and to find out the best data paths in concurrent engineering environments. These features turn AD into a unique background for engineering design education and practice.
