Unnatural oligomers that adopt specific,compact conformations have a wide range of potential applications.This kind of oligomer (known as a foldamer) with well-defined secondary structure preferences (e.g,helices,sheets,turns) could be used to create new types of tertiary structures,a useful approach to macromolecules with functional properties.
