As illustrated by the media selection grid, a variety of applications can be developed with greater or lesser degrees of learner control and media optimisation. However when deciding what type of application to develop, the institution must be aware of the skill set required by such a development and ensure that the skills are either already in place or preparations are being made to provide them. It must also be aware of the skills required by students to benefit from the applications. It goes without saying that the type of application and choice of media must match the learning requirements in order to ensure appropriate outcomes for the students.
