Using wheel speed and wheel slip information for controlling vehicle chassis systems

This paper discusses some questions of how to use the wheel speed sensor signals for other purposes than used conventionally. The wheel speed sensor is a rather robust element of the ABS system, which has been used for few decades and certain confidence has been gained. The question is, for what purposes one can use the wheel speed information instead of using an expensive other senso, which introduces additional uncertainty into the vehicle system. The authors of this paper discuss the opportunity (in some cases, it is already more than that) of using the wheel speed information for various control purposes in heavy vehicles.
