Epidemiological pathways of Listeria monocytogenes in the fish processing industry

Epidemiological pathways of L. monocytogenes in a fish processing plant and its products were studied using an automated ribotyping system. A total of 98 L. monocytogenes isolates matched to five ribogroups, one of which (Rg-1) dominated in the process as well as in the products. Raw fish was free of L. monocytogenes, but was contaminated during the production. There was a clear indication that the incidence of L. monocytogenes in surface samples paralleled the incidence of high total bacterial coun
