A virtual classroom for secondary school biology education

摘要

Although much have been talked about Virtual Classroom (VC), most of what is being attempted for VC however is based on a traditional model of instruction that is inappropriate for the WWW (World Wide Web or the Web) environment. In order to experiment on a feasible model of VC to facilitate learning and at the same time help guiding further modeling efforts, we have built a VC for secondary school Biology education. More particularly it is a one with special reference to the Hong Kong context. Initial evaluation of the system based on feedback from students and teachers is encouraging. With a comparison of the VC with commercial tools made and various aspects of the design detailed, given the fact that implementing a virtual classroom is never easy, the discussion hopefully would shed light to work of similar endeavors.
