Our post-industrial modes of living have resulted in significant environmental degradation, and education is becoming more concerned with the ways in which we interact within our societies and the biosphere. During the last decades we have begun to acknowledge the need for realignment of our modes of living with ecological balance and achieve some form of sustainability. To this end, the use of computers in education must also be aligned with an education for sustainability. This paper explores the role of computers in an education for sustainability. Firstly, the notion of education for sustainability is described. Secondly, a procedural instructional design model is developed, where learning tasks are built within the framework of an education that contributes to our sustainable future.
