DepoFoam particles are produced using a water in oil in water double emusion process. DepoFoam is a proprietary drug delivery system that provides sustained release f therapeutic compounds. Depo-Foam consists of microscopic, spherical particles composed of numerous nonconcentric internal aqueous chambers containing the encapsulated drug. Each chamber is separated from adjacent chambers by bilayer lipid membranes. The components of DepoFoam are synthetic analogs of common, naturally occurring lipids including phospholipids, cholesterol, and neutral lipids. The DepoFoam particles consist of 95percent water and are structurally distinct from other types of lipid-based particles. Figure 1 shows the structure of a DepoFoam particle.
