Psychological contracts are the reciprocal obligations perceived by individuals involved inmanaging an inter-firm relationship. We conduct a laboratory experiment to investigate howpeople alter their decision-making behavior when their supply chain partner fails to adhere toexpectations. We demonstrate that time to violation and the attribution given for the violationboth have a significant and negative effect on ordering decisions. Violations attributed toreneging are associated with increased experience of psychological contract violation.
