The Internet may prove to be the capstone of future economic structures. The success of the digital corporation and its use of integrated value chains depends on establishing successful digital marketplaces that will allow all participants of the value chain to participate. The Internet will force companies to develop new strategies and to forge new relationships with suppliers, customers, and even competitors. Successful companies will discard the old concept of company-centric value chains and will move toward value threads composed of all participants in their businesses. What is the pivotal issue is that the Internet is forcing businesses to recognize that the customer, not technology, determines success in e-businesses.
