DEVELOPMENT OF V20FX DIESEL ENGINE FOR HIGH-SPEED VESSEL

In resent years, the speed up of ship is advanced inthe world. Also, in Japan, the way of the transport isto be shifted from land transport to seaway.Therefore, the requirements of high-speed vesselswith high-speed, high power, lightweight and highefficient engine is increasing.To cope with this requirement, Niigata high-speeddiesel engine model V16FX was developed anddelivered for high-speed vessel, passenger ship,patrol boat and etc. since 1992.Aiming to fulfil higher output demands, V20FX isdeveloped using the experience of precedingV16FX and latest design technology.V20FX is developed as the engine with thelightweight, compactness, high durability and highreliability. This engine has simple structure withsingle stage turbo-charging system by only two highperformance turbochargers achieving meaneffective pressure 2.5MPa, mean piston speed12.1m/s, power rate 30.3MPa?m/s and maximumoutput 250kW/cyl.
