Understanding Communication and Interaction in Learning ― Capturing Requirements for an ICT Based Learning Environment

In the design process of ICT based learning environments there has been a need for moving from what is learned to from whom and with whom the things are learned. Designers of future learning services need to better understand how learning takes place within the community and how new services can be designed to contribute to a more sustainable and desirable society (see also Spizer 1998 and Miller 1996). This paper presents a user centred approach to the development process of a new learning environment to support communication and interaction between the users. The project is partly funded by Eurescom (European Institute for Strategic Studies in Telecom nunications) and it is a collaborated work of research departments of BT, Finnet Group, Iceland Telecom, Telenor, Telecom Portugal and Slovakian Telecom.
