How do individual portable computers effect students' learning?

Investing in portable computers for students is a controversial issue. The paper focuses on pedagogical aspects of such an endeavour. It reports on a case study of portable computer use by students in the Master's degree program in Information Technology at Uppsala University, Uppsala, Sweden. The results are promising, indicating that in general students learn more and that they use the computers for collaboration.
