Ground granulated blast-furnace and corex slag - comparative study

The slag is a synthetic material produced by introducing the oxides into melting steel processes to control the chemical reactions of the production. The two main kinds of the slag cementation discovered for over decades and produced in the world are Ground Granulated Blast-furnace Slag (GGBS) and Ground Granulated Corex Slag (GGCS). Many previous works were carried out on these two kinds of slag as an independent or with concrete. Based on such experiments, it is found that the durability characteristics of the concrete with these kinds have improved and, therefore, help further reduction in life-cycle and lower maintenance costs. This paper studies and compare both kinds of slags produced and used in concrete based on the literature of some experimental reports and factories data sheets.
