Mobile Solutions, a New Travel Management System

Information technology (IT) has changed our lives; it transformed our ways of communication and work. The Internet is providing communications all over the world, business opportunities, products advertising, education, etc. As a result of automation and introduction of IT into the workplaces, people may work more efficiently from home, and use time previously spent in traveling to and from work, to be productive.In a business environment, travel is expensive and necessary. As IT changes rapidly, there is a continuing need to understand and monitor its effects on passenger and freight transportation supply and demand.In this paper, the rising travel demand and some working IT solutions have been studied as a case study in municipal district No. 7 of Tehran metropolis with more than 300,000 inhabitants. The area has persistent growth in travel demand, and it needs real-time travel management systems which can make decisions and inform users instantly. One of the most helpful and attractive tools for receiving services is mobile handsets. Therefore, with a mobile intelligent information system which supports its users with messages and applications, the travel costs will be reduced, time will be saved and an important part of urban management will be organized.
