Automatically Generating and Validating Reading-Check Questions

The number of texts used by the REAP tutor and challenges of automatically generating reading comprehension questions necessitated a simpler automated type of question. We describe an algorithm for generating such reading-check questions for arbitrary texts. Two studies investigating the utility of these questions found reliable, moderate correlations with vocabulary learning and reading comprehension.
