NEW TONE MAPPING AND TONE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES– APPLICATION TO BIT-DEPTH SCALABLE VIDEO CODING

With the advance of modern technology, we are looking forimage/video representations with more realism. The popularityof HDTV (high definition TV) reveals that high resolutionand high quality video soon becomes the milestone of thenext video standard. Consequently, bit-depth scalability islikely becoming one important feature for the coming videocoding standard. In this paper, we propose new tone mappingand tone reproduction techniques based on human visualperception. Then the proposed techniques will be applied onthe bit-depth scalable video coding scheme. Experimentalresults show that the proposed coding scheme outperformsthe prior work and the visual quality of low bit-depth imagesis promising.
