This paper describes a low-cost flying mobile communicationrnplatform as a universal rapid-prototyping systemrnfor educational and research purposes, which is based onrnthe Quadrocopter concept. At the Integrated Hardwarernand Software Systems Group of the Ilmenau University ofrnTechnology these mobile platforms are used to motivaternbachelor and master students to study Computer Engineeringrnsciences. This can be done by increasing their interestrnin technical issues, using this platform as integral part of arnnew ad-hoc lab to demonstrate different aspects in the arearnof Mobile Communication. Moreover these platforms canrnbe used as universal rapid prototyping nodes to investigaterndifferent mechanisms for self-organized mobile communicationrnsystems within the International Graduate School onrnMobile Communications. Beside the three fields of application,rnthe paper describes the current architecture conceptrnof the mobile prototyping platform as well as the chosenrncontrol mechanism and the assigned sensor systems to fulfillrnall the required tasks.
