Combinatorial chemistry has been originally developed for new drug synthesis and the resulting remarkable efficiency convinces us of the same benefit from the application of combinatorial chemistry to other kinds of material synthesis as well. The discovery of novel materials or new functions for existing compounds is a laborious and time-consuming process. The optimization of material properties by high-throughput synthesis and screening is a key technology in material science today.
