Aesthetics - Emotion Mapping Analysis of Music and Painting

The relationship between aesthetics and emotion is interesting and potential research area. In this paper, an aesthetic and affective audio-visual database with 400 classical music fragments and 400 classical paintings was established. An aesthetics model including four categories (comedy sense, graceful sense, spectacular sense, and tragical sense) was used to evaluate the aesthetic performance of this database, and the Pleasure-Arousal-Dominace (PAD) model was adopted to give the affective evaluation. Both evaluations were implemented with the 9-point scale assessments. The mapping between aesthetics and emotion was discussed based on the subjective evaluation data. Results show that in PAD space different aesthetics has a clear separation and clustering features, moreover, the location relationship between different aesthetics of music and painting has a certain similarity.
