6791. Higgins, E. E., and Lansing, J. W. March 30. Fire - escapes. - Relates to means for releasing animals in stables in case of fire. By a pull on the main lead line 32, the animals are released and led to the back of their stalls and then down to the door. Branch lines 33, running through guides 16, pass over guide-sheaves down to the tripping- links 15, which are connected by chains to the hitching- links 11. A pull on the lines 33 raises the rings 15 and lifts the plungers 10-with which they engage-away from the links 11. As the links 15 rise further, camlugs 13 push them out of the notches 14 so that the animals are free at the head. The tension on the ropes then swings the protecting-sheaves 35, which are mounted on trunnions at the top and bottom, to the side so that the ropes fall away from the wall 6, and the animals on further pulling are led towards the guides 16. The flexible member 44 tied to the rope 32 becomes taut in the other direction to that shown in Fig. 2 when the animals have been led to the back of the stalls, and it then acts to pull the slide 28 to the right and allow the ring 31 to fall. By this operation, the slides 21 are traversed and the fingers 20 withdrawn from the support of the pivoted arms 19, which fall away and release the rings 16. The animals are led towards the door 2 by a further pull on the rope.
