An Electro-magnetic Device for Varying the Intensity of Light of Electric Lamps and for Permitting the Use of Low Voltage Lamps on High Voltage Circuits.
19,465. Stefano, A. de. Aug. 26, 1908, [Convention date]. Electro - magnetic interrupters.-An electro-magnetic interrupter for pulsating and alternating currents is so arranged that the moving member breaks the circuit as it moves away from the magnetic field. The circuit 1, 2 of a lamp A contains the winding of an electromagnetic device, a fixed contact 4 and a vibrating contact 3. To start the apparatus, the contact 4 is brought i n t o engagement with the contact 3 by means of a screw 5. The pulsating or alternating current in the winding and the resilience of the contact 3 keeps the contact in vibration, the break between the contacts 3, 4 taking place when the current is at or near its zero value. The periodic magnetic field may be produced by any electromagnetic means. The action of the interrupter is varied by varying the distance between the contacts 3, 4.
