16,906. Thorne, G. H. July 15. [Cognate Application, 28,946/10.] Siphon bottles. - Relates to siphon bottles in which t h e discharge valve is opened by the depression of a removable spout section. The hollow valve stem a carries at its lower end a dished flange b, and is fitted with an annular elastic washer d fitting into a recess in the stem and closing inclined radial ports a2. The washer d is held between the two parts c, c1 cf the stopper which are chamfered as shown. When the stem a is depressed the washer d is distorted and the ports a2 are opened. When the stem is released the flange b is pressed against the washer d by the gas pressure in the bottle and forms a tight joint therewith, and at the same time the washer returns into the recess and closes the ports a2. The lower side of the flange is formed with channels b1. The lower part c1 of the stopper may be formed in piece with the discharge tube c5. The ports are formed of ebonite, tough glass, porcelain, &c. The washer d may project into an annular groove in the bottle neck and form a tight joint therewith. The valve stem may be provided at the top with a screwed portion to receive the spout section, and a squared portion to prevent rotation. The stem may be formed in two parts, one inserted from the top of the stopper and the other from the bottom.
