Column-stills and r e c t i fi e r s. - In a process for separating the oxygen and nitrogen in atmospheric air by passing air through descending liquid nitrogen in a rectification column, the vaporization of the liquid is effected by the liquefaction of nitrogen in a separate coil passing through the liquid. The column comprises superposed trays provided with fine perforations or capped overflow tubes or other means, whereby the liquid is caused to traverse the column in the form of drops or fine streams.
