The inner member of a telescopic stay consists of a pair of friction sheaths which are pressed into engagement with the outer member of the stay by one or more springs. The sheaths a, a' are attached to a plunger c by means of a pin c1 loosely engaging holes a2 in the sheaths, and are forced apart by a single leaf spring b as shown, or by a pair of leaf springs, or by coiled springs. The outer member of the stay may be of any convenient cross-section, such as circular, square, oblong, or triangular, the sheaths being shaped to correspond. Specification 2611/07 is referred to.
