Guns.-A spring-gun for slaughtering purposes comprises a tubular body A containing a spring-pressed plunger or piercer D, and a rack B and pinion G for forcing back the p i e r c e r against the action of the spring C. The pinion G is operated by a removable crank-handle carrying ratchet teeth which cooperate with a pawl to prevent backward movement. The piercer is held in the retracted position by a catch K, which is pressed into engagement with a shoulder at the end of the neck portion B by a spring N acting on the lever H. When this lever is pressed towards the tubular body A, the catch K is disengaged, and the piercer is forced forward by the spring C.
