Emergency-exit fastenings. -An emergency-exit fastening for the door of a theatre, hall, department store, factory, school, or the like comprises a flexible panel 18, such as a sheet of wire mesh or of cloth, normally held stretched across the door 2 between the fixed rod 4 and the hinged rod 6 by the pressure of the spring 16 upon the latter rod, whereby the nose 13 on the rod 6 is kept in engagement with the striking-plate 12 on the door post 1. In addition to release by pressure on the flexible panel, operation from outside by a key is effected by means of the sliding spring-pressed bar 20, the turned-up end 22 of which embraces the rod 6, the unlocking being controlled by a tumbler 23.
