Baffles; air, supplying; regenerative fittings. - A baffle between the furnace of a steam-boiler and the ends of the boiler tubes consists of blocks or disks 1, which may be perforated as shown, and are made of refractory material and carried by rods 2. The rods 2 are supported by cross-tubes 4, 6 carried by longitudinal tubes 10, which pass through the fire-tubes and are connected to an air-supply pipe 7. The air, heated by its passage through the smoke-box and fire-tubes, issues by perforations 12 in the tubes 4, 6, 10. There may be diaphragms in the pipes 10 to increase the heating of the air.
