2756. Davies, W. I. Feb. 20. Contents, facilitating access to.-Relates to boxes for containing cartridge belts for machine guns. The invention is applicable to boxes adapted to contain a single belt which is fed direct from the box into the gun, or to boxes for storing several belts, and consists mainly in hinging one side of the box at the bottom so as to allow it to open to a limited extent, the width of the box being such that the movable side, which is padded, presses firmly against the contents, when closed, and prevents them from being shaken about. Fig. 2 shows a box for a single belt, in which one side C is hinged at c1, the outward movement being limited by devices H. When the side C is closed and the lid' of the box shut, the side is locked by the interengagement of parts K, M on the lid and side. The studs K may be wedge-shaped, as exemplified in Fig. 6, so that the closing of the lid automatically effects the closing of the side. The interior of the side C is covered by a pad, preferably of india-rubber. A box intended to contain two belts is shown in Fig. 5. The side C is, in this case, hinged to projections a2 from the ends of the box by means of connected strips c2. The lid is in two parts, one part B being hinged and the other B3 slidable, these parts being secured together. when closed, by a catch b4. The side C is locked when in the closed position by stud-and-socket devices K, M and N, c5, a1.
