136,588. Steiger, A., and Steiger, W. W. Oct. 14, 1918. Shaft furnaces; discharging.-In a gas-fired kiln for burning lime, magnesite, ores, and other non- sintering materials, of the kind in which the cooling-zone is enlarged at one or more points to loosen the descending material, a continuouslyoperated discharging-device is used consisting or an inclined reciprocating table arranged in such a position that it is relieved from the weight of the charge. In the construction shown, the crosssection of the cooling-zone is increased at two points, one immediately beneath the burning-zone 2 and the other lower down. Two discharging- devices 14 are fitted, and the weight of the charge is taken by inclined surfaces 11 overlapping at their lower ends. The air for combustion with gas supplied through ports 6 is supplied to the cooling-zone by a fan 7.
