181,289. Connolly, W. J., and Sandham, P. H. Oct. 19, 1921. Wind and like screens or deflectors.-Relates to wind-screens applicable to motor-cycle sidecars and other light motor vehicles, of the type comprising a flat sheet of transparent material, to which an apron may be attached, having reinforced edges and which is bent to the curvature desired. The sheet of material is provided with rigid reinforcing edge-strips, those edges lateral to the vehicle being provided with hinges or flexible connections where it is desirable to bend the screen to form a front angular shield, with or without side wings also at an angle to the front part, and is provided also with means for adjustably attaching the screen to the vehicle. In one of various constructions described reinforcing- strips c of steel are bound over the edges and to the screen a at d' by binding-material d, gaps, bridged by spring steel strips e, held within the ends of the strips c, either for the whole width of the screen or only in the vicinity of the gaps, being left where it is required to bend the screen. When it is desirable rigidly to lock the flexible connections, for example when the screen is adapted for use as a rear screen, a locking- hinge is employed. The side wings b which may be formed from separate pieces of celluloid or similar material, or of opaque material, with or without transparent windows, are provided with slots b1, various forms of which are described for the purpose of adjustment of the wind-screen. The edges of these slots may be provided with reinforcing-means b2 and the screen clamped in its desired position by a bolt and wing nnt passing through slots cut in the sides of the vehicle.
