Cleansing, abrading, and polishing compositions for rubbing down and finishing celluloid or celluloid-coated surfaces consist of a mild solvent of celluloid, a fine grit, and a liquid lubricant without solvent or chemical action on the celluloid or the grit and solvent. In an example 4 quarts of methylated spirits or turpentine or 2 quarts of each, 4 quarts of vienna chalk, and 1 quart of linseed oil or paraffin oil are mixed, and applied by a rag, rubber, bob, or cotton wool.
