Heating by electricity.-In a process for inserting and securing metal parts in ceramic materials, particularly pins in artificial teeth, the metal parts are upset in an incandescent condition in recesses or bores in the previously baked material. The metal, preferably in the form of wire, may be heated electrically by passage between electrodes so as to close an electric circuit, and after being heated is upset and the circuit simultaneously broken. The apparatus used comprises a tooth clamp b provided with electrodes c, c, and an adjustable guide spindle f through which wire h from a drum g is fed and is clamped by a nut i. The spindle f is moved downwardly by a lever u so as to bring the end of the wire between the electrodes c, c, and when the wire has become incandescent a spring operated hammer n is released so that the wire is forced into the cavity in the tooth a and upset therein. Link mechanism p, r operated by a lever q interconnects a stop o for the hammer and a. catch s for the electric switch k.
