405,470. Elastic valves. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN, 13D, Emmasingel, Eindhoven, Holland. March 3, 1933, No. 6520. Convention date, March 5, 1932. [Class 135.] An electrolytic cell, particularly a condenser, is provided with a flap valve secured to the wall of the vessel by means of one or more parts integral with the flap and pulled through apertures in the wall. In the electrolytic condenser shown, an electrode 1 consisting of a helically wound profiled rod or wire is provided with an oxide coating and immersed in an electrolyte 2 contained in a vessel 3. In the lid 4 of this vessel is a gas-escape aperture, which is closed by the head 6 of a mushroomshaped valve of rubber. The stem 7 of the valve is pulled through an aperture in the lid. The stem is originally longer and tapered to facilitate its insertion. After insertion the greater part of the stem is cut off, leaving the part shown. The vessel 3 is closed at the bottom by a member 8 of ebonite, artificial resin, &c., an hermetic seal being obtained by means of a rubber disc 10 clamped between the member 8 and a disc 11 by a nut 12 on the bolt 9, which serves as the conductor for the electrode 1. The disc 10 is turned over the edge of the member 8 and fits into a groove 14 therein. The vessel 3 is formed with a re-entrant ring 13 against which the disc 10 is pressed by flanging over the edge 15. The condenser is held in a base-plate by means of a nut 16. The flap may alternatively consist of a small strip of rubber, the ends of which are pulled through slits in the condenser wall, whereas the middle portion lies on the exhaust part, which may be formed on a protuberance.
