491,031. Shock - absorbing devices. LLOYD, H. D. L. March 10, 1937, No. 7091. [Class 78 (ii)] [Also in Groups XXV and XXXII] In a resilient attachment device particularly adapted for securing balance ropes to mine cages, the end of the rope d, Fig. 2, is mounted in a casting or forging a which is connected by pairs of pivoted links g1, g; h1, h, Fig. 1, to a pair of supporting plates e, e1 secured to the cross-bearer f beneath a cage. The links g1, h1 are forced apart by a compression spring i. The member a is formed with a vertical tapered bore at the bottom of which is provided a seating for a self-aligning spherical ball race &. A conical socket c attached to the end of the rope d and provided with a dust excluding flange c1 rotates freely in the bore and rests on the race b. The member a may be made in halves with flanged joints for bolting together in order that the rope end may be fitted with ball bearing and socket without having first to be threaded through the casting. In a modification the member a, Fig. 4, has a bore through which passes a swivel member k. The head k1 of the member k rests on a bearing b, and its lower end is pivoted to a pair of links m, m1 which carry between them a thimble n around which the rope d is passed.
