[Also in Group II] In a reciprocating sieve for cereal products, stock is fed from a hopper a via a gate comprising a fixed part g having a pivotally mounted extension n which operates, on changes in the head of stock acting on a balance plate b, to vary the feed gap between the extension n and a fixed base w. As shown, a spring-loaded pivoted balance plate b carries an arm j extending behind the fixed plate g and having a roller k which bears on a curved lever m extending upwardly from an arcuate extension n, the latter being supported at each end on centrally pivoted arms o. The arms o are acted on by springs q which may be anchored to hold the extension n resiliently in either its operative position, Fig. 1, or an inoperative position, Fig. 4.
