[Also in Group VII] A normally hand-held device, partly shown at 19, for marking, by thread or tags, the selvage of a length of cloth undergoing inspection, is carried by a slide 17 sliding in a rectilinear guide 14 arranged to carry the device 19 at the required height. The device may be moved along the guide to and from the cloth edge, and actuated, by hand, or, as in the form shown, by electrical means, which may be replaced by equivalent pneumatic means. The marking device 19 is held on the slide 17 by a stirrup 18 which is connected to the slide by a link 26 acted on by a solenoid 20, through a cord 22, and a return spring 24. On energization of the solenoid the slide is pulled forward to the chain-dotted position, the link 26 then occupying the dotted-line position 261, and, further movement of the slide being prevented, the link is pulled down to the chain-dotted position to depress the upper part of the device 19, which forms the actuating lever of the device. Several sets of apparatus producing markings different in colour may be mounted side by side.
