Headings A5K and A5R. lortophoresis apparatus for dental treatment or testing the urality of teeth comprises a current measuring instrument 2 with a conducting handle 7 forming an indifferent electrode and a battery 8 having one pole connected to the handle and the other pole connected through a rheostat 10 and the measuring instrument to a socket 12 connected by a conductor 14 to the active electrode 17. The measuring instrument has three scales, one for indicating the current passing through the patient, one for indicating the time to desensitise a tooth with the selected current and one for indicating the time for which a selected treatment should be applied. The active electrode may be connected to a resilient U- shaped container 16 which receives a sponge (18, Fig. 2) which is soaked in electrolyte. Alternatively, the active electrode is an insulating stylet (20, Fig. 3) having a small interchangeable conducting brush (21) soaked in electrolyte at one end. The polarity of the electrodes is chosen according to the treatment to be applied.
