[Also in Division B5] Conical tubular wafers are made by helically winding a still warm and flexible wafer web from a baking machine on to a shaping mandrel from which it is fed to a rotary cutter. The winding mechanism may include two driven rolls 3 and 4, one for feeding the wafer web from the baking machine on to the mandrel 1 and the other for advancing the web along the mandrel. If the mandrel is rotated only one feeding roller is provided. The inside of the wafer may be coated with fat or chocolate from a nozzle 6 carried by the mandrel. The rotary cutter comprises a circular saw 10 driven by an electric motor 12 and advancing with the wafer, cutting being initiated when the advancing wafer meets a stop. As the wafer leaves the mandrel and moves toward the cutter it is supported by a trough shaped guide 16 which may be water cooled to accelerate setting.
