[Also in Division H1] Electrode spacers comprise filaments of insulating material extruded on to the electrode surface. Preheated electrodes 10 may be moved by conveyer 9 under extrusion head 11. The extrusion head may have a plurality of nozzles 12, the separation between the nozzles being adjustable. The temperature of the head may be thermostatically controlled and it may be arranged to discharge in response to signals from micro-switches or photo-electric cells. The insulating material may be a thermoplastic or a thermosetting resin, e.g. a mixture of an epoxy-resin and a hardener. In alternative arrangements (a) the extrusion head may move rather than the electrode and (b) both sides of the electrode may be treated at once by moving it up or down between two extrusion heads.
