1388433 Crosslinkable polymers containing urethane groups BAYER AG 25 April 1972 [30 April 1971] 19136/72 Headings C3P and C3R Polymers which are crosslinkable by vinyl polymerization contain per molecule at least two groups of the formula where R is H or C 1 -C 4 alkyl and n is an integer from 1 to 6. The polymers may be prepared by reacting a polymer containing hydroxyl groups with a monomer of the formula where R and n are as defined above. In examples the hydroxyl-containing polymers are (1) a hydroxypropyl methacrylate/methyl methacrylate/methyl acrylate copolymer; (2) as in (1) except that the acrylate component is n-butyl acrylate; and (5) a polyester derived from phthalic acid and trimethylolpropane. Vinyl alcohol polymers are also useful. The polymers of the invention are useful in the production of coatings which can be crosslinked by heat or actinic radiation, optionally in the presence of a free radical initiator.
