The locking clasp (1) for a sliding clasp fastener automatically locks onto the teeth of the fastener when it comes to rest. A catch (25) mounted on a resilient cantilever arm(29) penetrates the teeth (30) to effect locking. The elasticity of the cantilever arm (29) acts to ensure locking. The cantilever arm is mounted inside an arch shaped support (2) which spans the clasp (1) in the longitudinal direction. Treaction on the traction stirrup (4, 28) causes the cantilever arm to deflect and the catch (25) to disengage. The clasp is of the type incorporating a 'Y' form channel (9) for the reception of the two rows of teeth of the fastener.
