The fuel pump consists of a lower housing section containing the contact breaker points, a centre section (2) containing the magnet windings (29) and a two part cap (3). The centre section and the lower part of the cap are separated by a flexible diaphragm (6) actuated by the armature push rod (26). A fuel inlet union (8) and a fuel outlet union (11) lead to separate suction (9) and compression (12) chambers communicating with the working chambers (5) via inlet (13) and outlet (15) valves. - In order to prevent fuel siphoning through the pump during periods of pump rest, the inlet valve is provided with an extra spring (22). The spring is stronger than the valve spring (21) and rests in a recess (23) in the pump diaphragm, to press against the valve plate to give an added closing force.
