The device has a solenoid valve (27) connection on the fuel injection pump (23) side connected to a feed output upstream of an equal pressure valve (17); the solenoid valve is controlled so that it closes during the delivery stroke of the fuel injection pump piston as the fuel delivery commences. The solenoid valve opens as the fuel delivery finishes and connects the delivery output of the fuel injection pump to a pressure generator (33) of a mixing device (25) for the additional liquid for a defined period of the pump piston's residual stroke.
