A load measuring cell consists of a symmetrically shaped distortion element containing a hollow central space and a number of vertical slots in which strain gauges are mounted. The device measures processes typically up to 600 kP. The load cell, which can have two different forms, basically consists of two side lobes (42,43) attached to a central column (41) by rigid members (45) incorporating hollow spaces (51,52) in some of which strain gauges are mounted. This compound element is mounted on a base plate (50) and enclosed in a protective outer cylinder (54), at the top of which a contact element (40) allows application of the force to be measured. A diaphragm (57) protects the moving parts from dust.
