Facing mortars which do not run - by adding non-ionic surfactants, water-repellents and fine materials to the usual mixts.

Additives for conventional mortars using hydraulic binders, are a combination of (a) non-ionic surfactants; (b) very fine insol. addns, and (c) water-repellents; any kind of water is used and the facing obtd. can be applied vertically in one pass 35mm thick; after hardening, the coating is insulating, water-repellent, adherent, non-cracking and self-washing. Addns. (a) are pref. water-soluble emulsifiers unaffected by time in the hydraulic binder with HLB 6-18, the amt. used being 5-200, esp. 10-5g/100 P mortar. Addns. (b) are max. 100 mu dia. with specific surface min. 100 m2/g, esp. 60-100g being used per 100 P mortar. Addns. (c) are pref. fatty acids, used esp. in amt. of 80-150g/100 P mortar. Natural or synthetic resins, colours, and anionic surfactants may also be added. Used for facings which can be directly applied on prepd. or unprepared surfaces.
