Differential amplitude detector - for use with simultaneously occuring positive-negative signals

The circuit is an arrangement that detects the amplitude level difference between two signals; one being positive, the other negative, and occurring at the same instant, such as in "balanced line" driving systems. Two transistors are used, the collector of the first being connected to the base of the second via a diode. The two input signals are fed to the base, and collector of the first transistor. The output is taken from the collector of the second transistor. The sensitivity of the circuit is controlled by placing potentiometers at the base of each transistor and in series with the input signal.
