Tobacco crate assembling and filling machine - has conveyors, shaping block and pneumatically operated grippers preceding filling and pressing station

The machine for assembling and filling crates for holding loose tobacco leaves in bulk has a delivery mechanism (1) for the four sides of a crate, which travels above a stack (2) of the sides, and delivers them to a folding table (3). A shaping block (4) around which the sides are mounted, is conveyed above the table by an overhead frame (8). The topa nd bottom panels are conveyed to the table by a supply frame travelling at right angles to the previous direction of movement, and positioned by members operated by pneumatic cylinders. After assembly, the edges of the crate are gripped by inner (17) and outer hooks, and the crate is conveyed onwards to a conveyor (19) to a carriage (9) with vertical securing members (11) operated pneumatically. After removal of the shaping block, the crate travels under a press (14) which fills and compresses the tobacco leaves, followed by closure of the top.
